New Governments on the Blockchain anyone?
How could Government look on the Blockchain? Do you think there should be more choice of Governments? What would a new nation on the Blockchain look like?
Susanne Tarkowski Tempelhof, founder of Bitnation, is looking to outcompete governments by providing the same services they offer, but cheaper and better, through the use of Blockchain technology.
So where is Bitnation on its audacious programme to usurp traditional Governments? Basic services being offered by Bitnation include ID, reputation and dispute resolution. On top of that the team is looking at the possibilities of insurance and security, marriage, birth, death certificates, land titles and so on.
Susanne recently told members of The Bitcoin and Blockchain Leadership Forum, ‘We believe there’s not enough choice of government service providers The one we get is dictated by the area we happen to be born in, which is absurd.’
Bitnation wants to see a world of millions of competing governments. And would like to see more organisations stepping forward to offer Government services using the Blockchain. Previously, Susanne has said she would like to have Apple or Google as a Government. Prime Minister Larry Page perhaps?
‘We don’t buy services from just one company’, she argued. ‘So why should we accept that when it comes to government services. There is really no reason for it.’
The World Economic Forum anticipates that Government is going to be radically affected by Blockchain technologies. In a software research report, The World Economic Forum forecasts that tax collected for the first time by a government via a Blockchain will take place by 2025. So not long then.
What are Bitnation’s views on the pace of change? ‘Full decentralisation will take two or three years. We’re experimenting with systems that anyone can join to do anything from developing an app to writing a press release, that people can upload without the need for approvals’.
So while the UK votes on whether or not to say in the EU, the Blockchain could give people at some stage the change to vote on whether or not they want to stay with their current Government. Sounds far fetched. For now.
